The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali has commiserated with the people and government of Zamfara state over the meningitis outbreak that has ravaged parts of state in the past weeks.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the minister’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Col. Tukur Gusau, Dan-Ali delivered his message during a recent visit to the Government House in Gusau.
The statement said the minister expressed his sympathy with the families of those that lost their lives as a result of the meningitis outbreak, while commending the state government’s efforts in ameliorating the suffering of the people following the outbreak of the disease.
“The Defence Minister who recently went on a visit to the Government House in Gusau prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the lives lost eternal rest and speedy recovery to those still undergoing treatment.
“He also assured the state government of his continuous support to the development of the state,’’ Col. Gusua said in the statement.
The statement adds that the minister also used the opportunity to solicit for support and cooperation from the people of Zamfara state towards the success of President Muhamadu Buhari’s administration.
According to the statement, the acting governor of Zamfara state Ma’am Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad thanked the Defence Minister for the visit and for sending a medical team to complement the efforts of the state government in vaccinating people in the affected areas.
Zamfara is one of the states severely hit by the recent meningitis outbreak across the country with scores reported dead and many others still undergoing treatment in designated health facilities in the affected areas.
The Federal Government through the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) had in the past weeks mobilized and deployed vaccines and personnel to control the effect of the disease to the lowest figures.
The Federal Government also recently purchased additional doses of vaccines to ensure treatment and control of the disease.
