The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken over the national leadership of the party.

Daily Trust reports that they asked party faithfuls to apologise to God and Nigerians for abusing the power given the party from 1999 to 2015.

The party has been embroiled in leadership crisis over the national chairmanship position.

Daily Trust reports that, the PDP Bot arrived at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja around 12.29pm on Wednesday, June 1 and went straight to the National Executive Committee (NEC) hall where they held a meeting with the secretariat staff on latest developments in the party.

Addressing the staff, the BoT chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, said until the leadership crisis is resolved, the BoT remained the only legal organ to run the party.

The party’s secretariat was reopened on Tuesday, May 31, after nine days of being sealed by security agents due to the leadership crisis rocking the party.

The secretariat was sealed-off on Sunday, May 22, by the police to maintain law and order following the party’s rancorous national convention in Port Harcourt on Saturday, May 21.

After the convention, two different courts in Lagos and Port Harcourt respectively, on Tuesday delivered conflicting judgment. While one reinstated the embattled national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff as chairman, the other restrained him from parading as the party chairman.

As a result, the PDP BoT said it would take over he national leadership of the party, as it would not just sit and watch the party fall apart.

In response, Sheriff maintained that he remains the authentic chairman of the party, warning the BoT to shelve its plan to take over the national leadership of the party.
