Chief of Army Staff, Lt -Gen. Tukur Buratai

According to the statement those retired were mainly some major generals, brigadier generals, colonels, lieutenant colonels and a major.

Their retirement was said to be based on service exigencies. Many of the officers were recently investigated for their role during the 2015 general elections.and their role in the ongoing DasukiGate trial.

Part of the statement read:”The investigation by the presidential committee investigating defence contracts revealed a lot. Some officers have already been arraigned in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

”People should therefore not read this out of context. The military must remain apolitical and professional at all times. We must applaud and support this laudable and bold initiative by the government.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian military are not relenting in their efforts to completely wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.

Interestingly, the troops are working hand-in-hand with the civilian JTF and local vigilante in their areas of operations.

The troops conducted a clearance operation in Alagarno forest and beyond in an early morning operation today, June 10, during the operation, 8 Boko Haram terrorists camps beyond Yajiwa were cleared.
