Senator Melaye made the disclosure yesterday, June 12, while speaking on Channels Television regarding the first anniversary of the Senator Bukola Saraki-led 8th Senate.
Senator Dino Melaye says he wants to be president of Nigeria but has not given a specific timeline.
He argued that “the Senate under Senator Bukola Saraki has done brilliantly well. But we would have done better if not for this; like I call it this planted distraction by people of inordinate ambition.”
Apparently referring to the assets falsification trial of Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), which has been linked to the way he emerged as Senate President, Melaye said; “you don’t kill a man for being ambitious.”
He continued: “Everyone is ambitious. I’m ambitious;like I want to be the president of the federal republic of Nigeria. It shouldn’t be a crime. I will be.”
When asked by the anchor of the programme if he really wants to be president, the lawmaker reiterated; “I’ll be. When we get to that bridge; we’ll cross it.”
The controversial lawmaker has been in the news lately, he recently blasted governors for their evil doing in various states of Nigeria.
Melaye while speaking at the Red Chambers threw the caution to the wind when he said “some governors have exhibited Satanic Manifestations in their states.”
The controversial figure was contributing to the debate in the floor of the Senate on local government administration in Nigerian states.
Melaye’s comments irritated the Senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio who immediately raised a point of order asking Melaye to retract his statement.
Akpabio who came under Order 43 of the Senate rules stated that Senator Melaye has never been a governor and doesn’t know what it entails to govern a state.
