If within seven days the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not resolved, the youths within the party will take over the party.

Sherrif and Makarfi in leadership tussle

This threat is coming from a coalition of youth groups within the party in the face of the unresolved battle between Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi.

Markafi was appointed the chairman of a committee to manage the affairs of the party after the party ousted Sheriff as its chairman,

But the two party chieftains have continued to slug it out using the court and through physical means.

Sheriff reportedly stormed the Wadata Plaza, Abuja headquarters of the party on Monday June 13, 2016 and forced his way into the building claiming to be its recognised chairman.

He later explained through Inuwa Bwala, his special assistant, that he resumed work following the lapsing of a court injunction on him.

While speaking with journalists on Tuesday June 14 at the end of a meeting, chairman of the coaltion, Aderemi Olusegun, said the group was not happy with the challenges that have befallen the party in recent times.

Stressing that the youth group had lost patience, Aderemi said: “We are giving the leadership of the party (which includes the BOT, Governors’ Forum, warring groups and other stakeholders) a 7-day ultimatum to resolve this intractable but avoidable rancour.

“However, if this is not resolved, we shall be compelled to mobilize all concerned youths nationwide to take over the affairs of the party, as we have started putting in place an effective structure to take over the party secretariat.”

Premium Times reports that Aderemi described the PDP as bigger than any individual or groups and as such, must not be taken for a ride by anyone.

“We are therefore demanding the immediate withdrawal of all pending litigations in the court of law, so that we can amicably resolve all issues.

“Our party members world over are seriously disillusioned and unhappy.

“We have therefore constituted an 11-man committee to liaise with all the parties concerned and stakeholders so as a matter of urgency resolve all disagreements in our party.

“We shall be making further demands known to all the stakeholders in order to reposition our party as a viable alternative for all Nigerians,” Aderemi said adding that it was lamentable that the party does not realize the implication of its actions on the forthcoming elections in Ondo and Edo states.
