Ahead of the June 18 primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Edo state, a frontline governorship aspirant of the party, Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday, May 24, picked the nomination and expression of interest form for the September 10 election.

It was gathered that the N5.5 million for the form was contributed by members of the National Assembly of the party from Edo state, members of the state assembly, party faithful, market women and artisans from all walks of life from the state.

Present at the occasion were members of the Edo state Caucus of the party in the national assembly, namely, Hon. Pally Iriase, Hon. Peter Akpatason and Hon Philip Shuaibu, all members of the House of Representatives from the State.

A former Senator of the Federal Republic, Senator Domingo Obende, who represented Obaseki at theoccasion, said their decision to support Obaseki who enjoys the backing of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, came after due consultation with the people they represent.

“We have confidence in the ability of Mr Godwin Obaseki to continue the development of Edo State which he has been an integral part of. His experience in the economy is an added value that Edo State will benefit from. We will all return home to mobilise delegates of the party to vote for him during the primaries that is coming up on 18th May, 2016,”‎ Obende said.

He said they are confident that Mr. Obaseki will emerge the party’s candidate for the governorship election, if all the aspirants are given a level.

In another development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, May 23, invited the Edo state chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, over the N700 million presidential campaign funds that came to the state.

‎An aide to Chief Orbih who confirmed his invitation by the EFCC on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, May 24, said he left Benin for Port-Harcourt on Sunday to honour the invitation.
