Dr Mathew Achigbe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, is one of many supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari who believe that only Nigerian president can put an end to crisis and find long-lasting solutions to the country’s problems.
The Nation reports that Mr Achigbe urged Nigerians to stay united, patient and wait for President Buhari’s end of tenure to judge his merits and failures.
He said: “For the benefit of Nigerians, we need a firm and forthright leader like Buhari who is prepared to take the bull by the horns and bring lasting solution to some of our crises that we have experienced especially in the leadership of this country. I will only appeal to Nigerians to be patient. Let us use the end to justify some of these pains we are passing through.”
The APC leader also stressed that the existing problems were not caused by the wrongful desicions of the current administration but was a natural result of the actions taken by the previous government years ago.
Mr Achigbe added: “It looks as if Nigerians have very short memory and it is very obvious that we have a high degree of ability to tolerate and forget. What embarrasses some of us is the fact that they see fuel scarcity and other issues as peculiar to President Buhari’s administration and I find it difficult to talk on this issue because of the pains that Nigerians experienced during all this period.”
He assured that commitment of the president, joint efforts of Nigerians and their support would bring stablity and prosperity to the nation.
