According to the 27-year-old man who killed his brother, some unknown spirits led him to execute the act.
Mfon stabbed his twin brother Israel John to death at Olorunkemi street in the Somolu area of Lagos state on Monday, May 16.
Police spokesperson SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident, had earlier said the suspect stabbed the victim to death while sleeping at about 6.30am on Olorunkemi street, Bariga.
Mfom was reported to have stabbed the victim more than 70 times in different parts of his body; on the neck, head, armpit and stomach.
In his confession, the suspect told newsmen at the State Department of Criminal Investigation (SDCI) Yaba, that an unknown spirit ordered him to attack Israel and he didn’t realize what he did until his twin brother was dead.
Mfom, however, said that he was going to do everything possible to find out what or who controlled him to kill his brother.
He said: “Israel is my warlord. I cannot stay alone. I want to go and meet him wherever he is. We went to buy a generator, along with one of our friends at Bariga Market on Sunday. When we came back, we went to a beer joint to drink, later, we all went back home, ate and slept together.
“The next morning, our friend, Friday, went outside. I decided to go and join him outside. My brother was sleeping. As I was about opening the door, I felt someone attempted to blindfold me. In the process of defending myself, I grabbed a kitchen knife which was on top of the table.
“I headed straight to where my twin brother was sleeping and stabbed him several times. It was after the incident that I realised what had happened, Mfom sobbed, adding that he regretted killing his brother because it was not his intention to kill him.
“I have not been myself since his death. Both of us have been helping our elder brother to run his canteen. My twin brother was about to learn how to repair shoes before the unfortunate incident.”
Daily Post reports that the suspect also confessed that he used to smoke Indian hemp, but stopped three years ago when he was about to come to Lagos.
Mfom said that he started smoking Indian hemp when he was 15 years old.
“When I got to Lagos, instead of smoking, I started eating Indian hemp. I would pour the leaf into my palm and chew it,” the suspect added.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson further stated that the case was still being investigated.
In the same vein, the Anambrs state police command has apprehended one Chukwudi Mmaduakor for allegedly killing his younger brother, Chinecherem Mmaduakor.
Daily Post reports that the suspect did not only kill his brother, but went on to bury him in order to cover up his act.
Chukwudi was arrested by officers attached to the Umuchu Divisional Police, with his brother’s remains excavated.
Police spokesman Ojo Anthony Olusola who made this disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen, said: “Mr Chukwudi Mmaduakor from Ibughubu Umuchu was arrested for killing of his 18-year-old brother, Chinecherem Mmaduakor secretly in 2015 and buried him secretly with the help of his two friends from Akwa Ibom state.”
