Hell was let loose at Ijebu Ode township on Monday, May 23 morning when a truck loaded with granite stone hit a lady and crushed her to death.

The incident which occurred at the Itoro roundabout, opposite Ijebu Ode local government council around 10am has another lady’s leg badly damaged.

The deceased, a nursing lady whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report, was said to be working with at Detomi hospital in Molipa expressway, Ijebu Ode.

The other lady whose leg had been badly damaged by the truck had since been rushed to the general hospital in Ijebu Ode.

An eyewitness reported that the two ladies were on the bike while a tanker truck was said to have hit the Okada rider towards the trailer truck.

According to the eyewitness “the incident occurred around 10am this morning. It was a very pathetic situation as blood was flowing freely with human intestine and skull scatter all over the main road. Ijebu Ode is in grief now.

“The ladies were on a bike coming towards Oyingbo from unknown destination. We were at the Itoro park and within a twinkle of an eye, the Okada man was seen under the truck crushed the lady beyond recognition.

“Both of them were in nursing uniform of a private hospital in Ijebu Ode. While the first lady was crushed to death, the other lady’s leg was damaged seriously and we have to rushed down there to assist her while she was taken to the hospital.

“The driver of the truck and the tanker driver, including the Okada rider fled the scene while some irate mob set the truck on fire before some policemen came around and dispersed the crowd.

” You need to be here and see how people were crying while some passengers, who have paid for transport to Abeokuta were collecting their fares and returning homes from the fear of the incident”, the eyewitness explained.

The body of the woman was taken away while officials of the state traffic agency are in for a great work in diverting the route while others are busy trying to tow the truck into their Itoro office.
Another accident was said to have occurred around old toll gate, Sagamu.

The accident has caused a gridlock around the Sagamu- Ijebu Ode expressway, which has made vehicles going towards Abeokuta to make a detour towards Babcock-Ilishan road to exit at Siun.

As at the time of filling this report, Police and other security agencies, including the NSCDC, FRSC and TRACE are having a hectic day to make the road free of traffic.

In a related incident, four students of the Federal University of Technology Akure in Ondo state lost their lives in an accident when they were travelling to Lagos for a wedding reception.
According to Sahara Reporters, the tragic incident happened on Saturday, May 21 at the Ibule/Igbara Oke junction at a suburb of Akure town as the students were traveling in a campus bus belonging to the Redeemed Christian Fellowship.
