Minister of the Federal capital territory, Muhammad Bello

The minster of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Bello has tasked the new area council in the capital territory to find ways of generating revenue within their councils.

Bello said  the challenge became necessary due to the dwindling Nigeria’s economy affecting all tiers of government.

“Permit me to tell you that serious challenges await you at the Area Councils. The bitter truth is that all the six Area Councils cannot be able to pay staff salaries and other obligations. “You are now for all, irrespective of party, religion, tribe, age or gender. So be humble in your leadership and appreciate the role played by all stakeholders towards your victory, you must turn around the potentials of your Area Councils into wealth, by boosting revenue and blocking leakages, so that your Councils’ can be financially independent and you will be able to deliver the expected dividends of democracy,” he said.

Also speaking, the permanent secretary of the FCT, Babatope Ajakaiye commended the new chairmen, the electoral body, residents and security operatives, among others on the peaceful conduct of the FCT council elections.

Ajakaiye said the conduct of the election is a clear indication of a fact that the people of the FCT are indeed peace-loving people.

Thanking the out-going chairmen, the permanent secretary urged the new chairmen to be up and doing in keying into the change agenda of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration with a view of delivering the dividends of democracy to the grass-roots.

Federal Government, especially as it relates to delivering the dividends of democracy at the grass-roots.
