While briefing journalists regarding the termination of the appointment of the Executive Secretary of the Christian body, which is one of the government agencies, David Lawal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated that the decision was with immediate effect as from Thursday, May 19.

According to the statement which explains the disengagement from duty of the NCPC boss, it reads: “His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has in the exercise of his powers, approved the disengagement of Mr. John Kennedy Opara as the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission with effect from Thursday May 19 2016.

“Mr. President, however, thanked him for his invaluable services to the nation and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”

The primary function of the NCPC is to oversee the pilgrimage of those who practise Christianity in Nigeria once in a year to Israel and some selected sites in the middle east.
