Governor Ayodele Fayose while addressing local hunters at Oke-Ako Ekiti.

Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has commended Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, for his courage to declare war on the Fulani herdsmen and stop the movement of cattle rearers in the state.

The group also praised Yoruba social cultural group, Afenifere, which threw its weight behind Fayose’s decision, by saying:

“We fully endorse this action which is in conformity with the resolution of the 2014 National Conference that cattle breeders must embrace ranching as against grazing reserves being canvassed in certain quarters.”

The Sun reports that IPOB called on governors of the South-East, politicians and Ohanaeze Ndigbo to follow Fayose’s example and stop grazing in the region.

In a statement issued by Emma Powerful, the media and publicity secretary of IPOB, the group alleged a plot to kill its members on Monday, May 30, during its remembrance ceremony in honour of “Biafra heroes” who died during the civil war and during its protests held in the country.

“Information reaching us, through our intelligence department, indicates that soldiers, police and some Fulani herdsmen in army and police uniforms would be deployed to execute the heinous plan.

“We want to use this medium to let the world know that IPOB, under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is peaceful, intelligent, educated, well informed and determined to pursue the restoration of Biafra through the non-violent means and stipulated international law and nobody can drag us to become violent,” the statement read in part.

Earlier this week, IPOB accused northerners of trying to instigate the federal government to carry out genocide in the southeast Nigeria using security operatives.

The group faulted the call by Northern groups demanding that Biafra secessionist groups be treated as the Boko Haram sect.
