Yobe state governmet loses N15.8 billion to Boko Haram insurgency

Yobe state governor, Ibrahim Gaidem, said his government has lost over N15.8 billion to Boko Haram insurgency.

The governor disclosed this when the federal government inter-ministerial committee paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday, March 3, at the Government House, Damaturu.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Abubakar Aliyu stated that N13.7 billion was also spent on procurement of patrol vehicles, military and other security personnel allowances and treatment of victims attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in hospitals.

According to him, over 305,499 persons have since been displaced with the destruction of 1,098 public buildings and other infrastructural facilities in the health and education sectors.

He commended the efforts of security personnel and the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration towards ending Boko Haram insurgency, which has claimed many lives and property in the state and the North East region.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian army has again recorded a feat in the anti-insurgency war following an attack by troops on Boko Haram spiritual power base at the Alagarno forest, Borno state.
