In the wake of the recent court ruling which sentenced actress Ibinabo Fiberesima to five years in jail, ace Nigerian broadcaster Freeze has weighed in with the opinion that she be pardoned, adding that she needs to show remorse for her wrongdoing however.
Writing via his Instagram account on Monday, March 14 the On Air Personality explained his perspective on the issue:

“Should Ibinabo go to Jail for 5 years??? I ran a poll on the Roadshow on Cool FM today, and callers voted 6:1 in favour of her serving the sentence.”
Regardless of the poll on his show at urban Lagos radio station Cool FM, he held that the embattled actress should be pardoned in order not to deprive her children of her care as well as traumatize them with her absence.
He added that the jail sentence could put a blot on the entertainer’s image as well with the tag of ‘ex-convict’.
He wrote further: “Do I agree? Well, no. Let’s not deprive her children of their mother and not further traumatize them with the negativity associated with their mum being an ex-convict.”
However, he was clear on the fact that the N100, 000 fine imposed on her by a previous court ruling was insufficient given the magnitude of her offence.
He tried to analyse the entire situation using an iPhone vis-à-vis her penalty.
He wrote: “However, a N100,000 fine? Seriously???? what can 100k buy in Nigeria today??? Not even an iPhone 6! Probably an iPhone 5s at the most! So are you saying a woman would be deprived of her husbands love, care and intimacy in exchange for an iPhone 5s??? Or the children would be told ‘sorry guys daddy is gone but here is an iPhone 5s for you guys to share’ really???”
He expressed his wish for her to be pardoned but made to take responsibility of the deceased’s immediate family members including his wife and kids.
He wrote: “I am of the opinion that she should be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the children. This responsibility should be directly proportional to her income. Also, a portion of her income should go to the wife unless she, (the wife) states otherwise. No amount of money can replace a loved one. However, taking financial responsibility could help bring closure to the bereaved family.”
Ifedayo ‘Freeze’ Olarinde is a renowned Nigerian radio presenter and events host.
In 2015, his marriage collapsed after series of allegations between him and his ex-wife after which he allegedly abandoned her with two kids in pursuit of romance with a Port Harcourt-based lover rumoured to be older than him.
Freeze is half Nigerian (Osun State) and half Romanian. He read Sociology at the University of Ibadan and began his broadcasting career in 1996 with BCOS, Ibadan.
In the last couple of days, the Nigerian media has been afire following the five-year jail sentence of actress Ibinabo Fiberesima.
On Friday, March 11, Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of the Lagos division of the Court of Appeal sentenced the actress to five years in prison.
Justice Oluwayemi refused Nnaemeka Amaechina’s plea for the court to set aside the sentence and act on a prior N100, 000 fine verdict of the Magistrate Court on the grounds that the appeal lacked merit.
Amaechina was the Ibinabo’s lawyer. Following the judgment, the actress reportedly burst into tears.
Everything stems from Ibinabo’s reckless driving 11 years ago which led to the death of one Giwa Suraj in a car accident along the Lekki-Epe expressway, Lagos.
The deceased was a medical doctor and the breadwinner of his family.
