“I am not interested in who becomes the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti. I am not part of the process of selection. “

Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state, has vowed not to interfere with the process of selecting a new traditional ruler for any community or town in the state.

According to him, filling vacant traditional stool is a sacred assignment that must be allowed to take its natural course.

Leadership reports that at the weekend some community leaders from Isan-Ekiti visited Fayose over the selection issue for the vacant traditional stool of the town.

Addressing the guests, the governor said: “I am not interested in who becomes the Onisan of Isan-Ekiti. I am not part of the process of selection. My role is to present the staff of office and other paraphernalia of office to whoever is selected. People aspiring to be the new Onisan have the right to be members of the political party of their choice.”

Meanwhile, the Ekiti state government warned private school owners against hiding under the guise of paying the mandatory education levy to the government to exploit parents or charge them more than N500 per term for students in primary school and N1000 – for students in secondary school.

The government mandated the private school owners to clearly define the bills they are giving to parents to pay in respect of their wards and children.

Fayose gave the directive at a meeting with some concerned parents at the governor’s office in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend. He noted that a Parent Complaint Section has been set up in the ministry of education where violators of government’s orders should be reported to and where sanctions will be meted.

At the weekend, the governor made a statement reacting to the rerun election in Rivers state.

Fayose blasted the All Progressives Congress government of President Muhammadu Buhari for “the open display of contempt for free, fair and transparent election”. He also accused security agencies in the state of harassing, intimidating and even killing members of the Peoples Democratic Party.
