According to Tele Ikuru, the former deputy governor of Rivers state, it is impossible to rig legislative election.

Tele Ikuru, the former deputy governor of Rivers state, has stated that it is impossible to rig the legislative election scheduled for Saturday, March 19.

Daily Post reports that Ikuru expressed his assurance while speaking to supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party at the grand finale of the Rivers South-East campaign.

He called on the people of the state to resist any form of intimidation from the security operatives.

Ikuru, who served as the deputy governor under former governor Rotimi Amaechi for eight years, told the crowd that his ex-boss was “barking” when speaking about the security situation in the state and making threats.

Speaking at an APC rally in Rumueme, Obio/Akpor local government area, Amaechi said: “Saturday is your day, come out and vote. They will no longer have the police they had; they will no longer have the army they had. We pray that INEC should be neutral. Your job is to match out and vote for APC. We will not write results like Nyesom Wike, so go back to your wards and do door to door.”

Reacting to Amaechi’s statement, Ikuru reminded Nigerians that the ex-governor lost the 2015 general election “woefully” despite being the chief security officer of the state.

“He (Amaechi) is only barking. I know him very well. When he was governor, he bragged that he has the police in his right pocket, that he has the army in his left pocket, that he has the air force and the navy in his back pockets and he still lost the last election woefully.

“Let him come with his army, the police and all the security he has, they cannot do anything. Is it now that we have thrown him out as governor he wants to win election?
“It is an empty threat. He is powerless,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Governor Nyesom Wike recently alleged that the APC has refused to campaign for the rerun elections because they are relying on the military and security forces to rig. However, he stressed that the plot would fail woefully as the Rivers people would defend their mandate.

“Is Amaechi now the commander in chief of the Armed Forces that he talks about deploying soldiers? Our people will rise up to defend their votes. They will make the needed sacrifices their votes,” he said.
